LG brings in the more secure Knock Code to G2 and G Flex

Improving its initial double-tap to unlock feature that came in with the G2, LG has announced a new, and more secure interface for accessing LG Smartphones: the Knock Code. Models like the G Pro 2, G2 mini, F Series and L Series will come with this new feature, and the older versions will get replaced via a firmware update starting in April.

Those with the LG G2 and G Flex in specific countries will be the lucky ones to get the customized "knock" pattern first. This latest "tap to unlock" gesture divides the smartphone display into four invisible quadrants. One simply has to 'tap' or 'knock' in an approximate area to unlock the phone.

As a user, one can assign anywhere from two to eight taps in a quadrant using a specific sequence. This raises the permutation and combination to 80,000 possibilities and thus offering a greater level of security. The chances of password theft also decrease considerably, since the Knock Code is hard to mimic if you don't know where to tap.

Given that the Knock Code is easily implemented anywhere on the screen of any size, it works out better than bio-recognition systems and is more responsive. The firmware update is slated for April, but exact dates and availability will be announced locally; we'll try and keep you posted.
