Leica M10-P ASC 100 Edition is a fancy camera with unique software

The Leica M10-P "ASC 100 Edition" was revealed today with an eye for unique users and end-products. This is the sort of camera you get if you're aiming to make something nobody's ever made before – video-wise. The "ASC 100 Edition" part of the equation here celebrates the 100th anniversary of the American Society of Cinematographers, making clear their intended audience right out the gate. That audience is made up of people who love black cameras with strikingly gold lenses, clearly.

This camera rolls with a Leica Summicron-M 35 f/2 ASPH lens and a standard Leica M10-P camera body – save an ASC logo on the top plate. Inside the body is a software build that's unique – it includes two "specially tailored Cine Look modes" not offered anywhere else. THOUGH if history is any indicator, it won't be long before these modes are lifted and ported by 3rd-party individuals – but we'll see!

One of the two special modes in which this camera can work is "ASC Cine Classic," which "simulates a classic, analog 35mm motion-picture film look." The other unique mode is an "ASC Contemporary" mode. That'll bring about a "current digital style of contemporary movies."

The gold-colored anodized finish of the Leica Summicron-M 35 f/2 ASPH lens is meant to remind the user of an elder device. It "reinterprets" the brass lens of "the original Ur-Leica" in what the company says is "a contemporary way." The end aesthetic is certainly loud, of that you can be sure.

This camera includes a Leica Visoflex electronic viewfinder so you're all about seeing exactly what you're about to capture. This camera also has a Leica M-PL-Mount Adapter so you'll be able to use "almost all" PL mount cine lenses on the market today.

Pricing has not yet been shared for this unique piece of hardware. Availability is set for "Autumn 2019" and will likely be announced some time this Summer of this year, 2019.
