Layar AR app updates with redesign and new history feed

Augmented reality is still fairly underground, but more and more people are starting to get in on the phenomenon to bring digitized content to the physical world. Layar is one service that's looking to make a splash in the augmented reality universe, and they've just updated their mobile app with a new look and some new features.

The app consists of a completely-redesigned user interface, with a cleaner look and better navigation all around; this should make it easier to find your way around the app quickly without much trouble, and you'll be able to get to your AR scanning much quicker than you would've in the past.

There's also what Layar is calling Recent Content, which is essentially a history feed of previously-viewed AR content. Layar says that this is "something no other AR app offers." As for how handy it will be for users, that remains to be seen, but it's usually nice to have access to past content if you need that info again at some point.

The Layar website has also received a redesign, which the company boasts as "a one-stop portal for information on augmented reality, interactive print and Layar." If you're not familiar with augmented reality, the website can guide you through the basics on what it is, but essentially, you point your phone at a newspaper or poster of some sort, and the app will make it come to life with digital content like videos and scrolling slideshows. It's probably not something you'll use all the time, but it can definitely be a fun app to play around with.
