Laowa 24mm f/14 Relay 2x Macro Lens looks like a death machine

Laowa has unveiled a new macro lens that doesn't look like any macro lens for photography you have seen before. It looks like some not so subtle sniper rifle for an assassin to use in a terribly cheesy spy flick. I ran across this on April Fool's day I might think it was a joke, but it is a real product. The 24mm f/14 Relay 2x Macro lens is on display at Photokina and is due to land in stores next year.

The point of the strange design is to help you get closer to shy subjects in challenging conditions without scaring the subject away. The lens has a 2:1 maximum macro reproduction ratio and is resistant to temperature and extreme conditions. The lens is also full frame compatible.

The lens will be offered in Canon and Nikon mounts when it launches. There is no indication of just how much the lens might cost when it launches. That is all we know about the specifications of the lens as well. I'm not sure just how much more comfortable shy subjects will be with this pointy lens in their face instead of a traditional lens.

We've seen some interesting items surface for photography fans of late. The coolest was the tie up between DJI and Hasselblad for aerial photography. The tie up is a bundle that sells for $4,599 and includes the M600 drone along with six batteries and the Ronin-MX gimbal. The photography bit itself is a Hasselblad A5D camera able to transmit content to the user from 5km away. That camera is made for aerial photography and has either a 50MP or an 80MP sensor.
