Lamborghini Veneno Roadster offers 750 horsepower, enters production next year

Lamborghini has unveiled its Veneno Roadster, a beast of a vehicle that touts a maximum output of 750 horsepower, allowing it to hit speeds of 100 kilometers/hour in 2.9 seconds. The car was debuted in Abu Dhabi, where it is decked out in a custom color called Rosso Venevo, with the auto maker promising that every buyer can choose their own individualized color. The car is priced at 3.3 million Euros sans taxes, and enters production next year.

The car is promised to be fully road legal, with nine units being slated for production. With the 12-cylinder 6.5-liter engine comes a top speed of 355 kilometers/hour, and the transmission is designed to match the power. The ISR transmission is said to be "extremely fast-shifting" with five different modes and permanent all-wheel drive. There are horizontal spring/damper units and pushrod suspension with a racing chassis.

The dry weight sits at 1,490 kilograms, which puts the power-to-weight ration at 4.38lbs/horsepower. Says Lamborghini, not only does this result in "mind-blowing" performance, but that the "stunning acceleration figure of 2.9 seconds cannot adequately describe it. Because of the open design, the car features a rollover bar to help keep the passengers safe. There's no indication that more models will be produced after 2014.

Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann said: "The Lamborghini Veneno Roadster is one of the world's most exclusive cars with the most extraordinary performance. We are honored that Lamborghini was chosen to represent the Italian car industry in the UAE, as a perfect example of iconic Italian super sports cars, and that we have the opportunity to show the Veneno Roadster for the first time in Abu Dhabi. Lamborghini has an extremely strong following in the region for its super sports cars, with the Middle East one of our largest markets in the world."
