JVC turns on first HD display in NY Times Square

JVC is ahead of the curve, it seems. They have just turned on the very first 720p HD display in Times Square in New York today. The gigantic billboard is actually comprised of three LED displays. One is a standard display and the two others are tickers, one of which circles around a globe.

The new JVC billboard is located at Broadway and 43rd Street. The 16:9 display sports a resolution of 1280 x 720 and is made up of 1,266,400 LEDs. With a 60fps and 1007 LED modules, this display is sure to impress. It's big too, measuring in at 19 by 34 feet.

The tickers are also rather large. The main ticker measures in at 3.5 x 71 feet and has a resolution of 100 x 2014. The globe ticker, on the other hand, has a 100 x 1344 resolution and measures 3.5 x 45 feet. Apparently, this monstrosity of a billboard required 3014 feet of data cables and 2650 feet of power cables to run.
