JVC throws new cheap XV-BP11 Blu-ray player to the wolves

This holiday season may well see the mass adoption of Blu-ray in many homes. We have the PS3 at a new bargain price sporting its Blu-ray capability and we are seeing new stand-alone Blu-ray players pop up at much more affordable prices. It wasn't so long ago that Blu-ray players were still well over $300. JVC has just announced a new Blu-ray player called the XV-BP11 that is available right now.

The player carries a retail price of $199.95 and supports many of the features home theater fans expect in a Blu-ray player. Namely, the device offers support for AVCHD file playback and has HDMI 1.3 connectivity. The player can play BD-Rom, BD-R/RE, DVD-Video, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, Audio CD, CD-R/RW discs.

Format supported by the player include AVCHD, WMV, JPEG, MP3, WMA, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital plus, Dolby True HD, DTS, DTS HD Master Audio/Essential . In addition to HDMI, the Blu-ray player also has composite video and supports analog L/R and coaxial audio. A USB port is on the front panel allowing direct connection to camcorders and other devices. The major feature lacking form the player is support for Internet connectivity.
