Jeep's 2020 Gladiator Launch Edition sold out in a day

Jeep's 2020 Gladiator Launch Edition may have been the most expensive version of its long-anticipated pickup truck, but that didn't stop would-be owners snapping them up in under a day. The automaker opened pre-orders for the Launch Edition Gladiator on Thursday, April 4, and promptly sold out.

Jeep had 4,190 of the trucks to offer in the US, a reference to the 419 ZIP code of the Toledo, Ohio plant where the pickup will be produced on a new line. Considering the 2020 Gladiator Launch Edition has a recommended sticker price of $60,815, that's a whole lot of cash spent.

Still, the final price may well end up being even more. Launch Edition buyers may have ordered online, and then been contacted by a special "Jeep Concierge" to confirm the deal, but it'll be a local dealer which actually finalizes the sale. That dealer will also get to set the selling price.

Whatever it ends up costing, the new 2020 Gladiator will come effectively maxed out. The Launch Edition is based on the top-spec Gladiator Rubicon, with 17-inch Mid Gloss Black aluminum wheels shod in 33-inch Falken Wildpeak All-Terrain tires. Inside, there are black leather seats with red accent stitching, along with a wrapped instrument panel mid-bolster painted in Monaco silver.

Five different exterior colors will be offered: Black, Bright White, Billet Silver Metallic, Firecracker Red, and Granite Crystal Metallic. As standard, there'll be LED lights front and rear, a body-color hardtop and matching fender flares, the Trail Rail Cargo Management System, and the spray-in Berliner. The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 will be able to tow up to 7,000 pounds.

On the tech front, all Launch Edition trucks get the 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment touchscreen along with the 9-speaker Alpine audio system. There's keyless entry, blind-spot and rear cross path monitoring, rear parking assistance, and adaptive cruise control. Jeep's useful forward-facing TrailCam is also fitted.

If you missed out on one of the 4,190 Launch Edition models, the 2020 Gladiator will arrive in Sport, Sport S, Overland, and Rubicon trims from May. The Sport is priced from $33,545 (plus $1,495 destination), while the Rubicon starts at $43,545 plus destination.

As for what you get for your money, we found the 2020 Gladiator to be more than impressive off-road when we drove the new pickup earlier this month. On the road, meanwhile, there's some softness thanks to that compliant suspension, but nothing that Wrangler fans won't be familiar with.
