Jaguar to put CarPlay and Android Auto in new and existing vehicles

There are a lot of features on modern cars you don't think you need until you have them. Things like power windows and locks or fancy infotainment systems with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Once you have those features it's hard to live without them. Jaguar has announced that it will start offering both CarPlay and Android Auto in its new and existing vehicles in the US.

A Jag spokesperson has confirmed that starting with 2019 model vehicles forward, all Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles with InControl Touch Pro or Touch Pro Duo infotainment systems will have an optional smartphone connectivity package. That optional package includes Android Auto and CarPlay support. That feature can be added at the factory or at the dealer.

It will cost $280 and up depending on the model and trim. This means that existing owners of Jar or Rover vehicles with InControl touch Pro or Touch Pro Duo infotainment systems can have the option added.

There is a mystery surrounding the update, there is no indication of when new vehicles with support for smartphone features will land in the US. It's also unclear exactly when the upgrade option will be available for existing owners. What we do know is that in the UK, the update for existing owners is rolling out now.

The rollout in the US is expected to happen soon. Both CarPlay and Android Auto work similarly by allowing some apps to be shown on the larger infotainment screen so the phone can be put away. This includes navigation apps and texts.
