iRig Mic HD digital handheld microphone debuts for iPhone, iPad, and Mac

iRig has announced its latest offering for Apple users — the iRig Mic HD, something it calls the first "high-quality" digital handheld microphone for the iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, and Mac. With this condenser microphone comes the promise of professional recording quality sufficient for many needs.

This is an update to the company's iRig Mic, and with it comes a metal body that fits standard microphone stands via included hardware. The cable is detachable, which reduces hassle that would result from adapters. iRig claims the microphone is the quality equivalent of competing products double the price.

As far as hard and fast specifications go, the iRig Mic HD features a 24-bit A/D converter and a 44.1 – 96 KHz sampling rate, a clip, bundled software, USB cable, Lightning connector, and an optional 30-pin cable for those who need it. This is rounded out by the traditional microphone design, which aims to make it easy to hold.

The apps for the microphone are free to download, and include iRig Record, which has a self-explanatory name, as well as the vocal-effects apps Vocal Live and AmpliTube, which is aimed at guitarists and bassists. The Mic HD will arrive in "early Q2" of this year, and will be priced at $99.99 USD/ 80 Euro.
