iPhone XR Price Competes With OnePlus

Today Apple revealed the iPhone XR, complete with a price that makes it a challenger in a new category. A new category for Apple, that is – unless you count what they'd previously challenged opponents in with elder phones. Instead of simply cutting prices on older phones to fill lower-tier price points, Apple's revealed the iPhone XR.

The iPhone XR seems to be an effort to move the world speedily toward a no-Touch-Id, no-home-button market for the iPhone. To do this, Apple needs to release a cheaper device with the same display (shape) as the iPhone X. To do this, Apple's released the iPhone XR with an LCD display instead of what the iPhone X had – an OLED panel.

This new iPhone XR comes with 7000-series aerospace-grade aluminum and "durable" glass up front. The phone has a number of color options: White, Black, Blue, Coral, and Yellow. Because the banana color was always the best color when it came to iPhone 5c.

The display on this device is LCD in technology, and branded "Liquid Retina." It's a 6.1-inch panel with 1792 x 828 pixels across it – that's 326 ppi. That's a display that's larger than that of the iPhone 8 Plus, mind you, in a device with a smaller body.

This phone works with iOS 12, which means it's able to go to its home screen with a simple swipe up. "Swipe up to go to the home screen is a first on an LCD display," said Phil Schiller. That bit is nonsense. At the dawn of smartphones there was the brand Palm, and with Palm phones, one was able to swipe up to go to one's own home screen – on an LCD.

This smartphone is meant to be inexpensive when compared to the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max, but it's not quite a perfect on-par competitor with the OnePlus lineup just yet. Not that it's meant to compete directly with OnePlus, but still, it's not quite down to $530 just yet. The iPhone XR will start at $749 USD, and will be available starting on September 21st.
