iPhone SE update doubles up on storage with new models

The iPhone SE has proven to be surprisingly popular with the Apple faithful, and with its first birthday coming up, it's about time for it to get something of refresh. As hardware refreshes go, this one is minor, as Apple is only bumping up storage space. That extra on board storage, however, will come in useful at a time where our reliance on smartphones seems to be growing each day.Apple today introduced two new iPhone SE models – one with 32GB of storage and another with 128GB of storage. These are replacing the former 16GB and 64GB models, but the price isn't changing. This means you'll pay $399 for the 32GB model and $499 for the 128GB, assuming you buy them directly through Apple.

If these new storage capacities sway you toward an iPhone SE, you've got a few days left to wait before you can pick one up. 32GB and 128GB models aren't launching until March 24, the same day that the new (RED) iPhone 7 and 7 Plus launch. It seems the 16GB and 64GB models have already been phased out, with Apple.com showing that each and every SE variant is "currently unavailable."

You think that Apple would want to refresh the iPhone SE in a more substantial way, but at least one analyst doesn't think that'll happen within 2017. Indeed, these storage boosts might be the only thing we can expect for the SE this year, with a more significant update possibly coming in 2018. Time will ultimately tell, so stay tuned.
