iPhone OS 4.0 Has Three Variations Floating Around

So, Apple is announcing iPhone OS 4.0 come this Thursday (stay tuned, because we'll be there live blogging the event), and by now the speculation about what, exactly, the software will do is fully ramped up. Sure, it's been going for awhile now, but with the announcement literally only days away, it's going to fly off the handle. (Of course, be sure to let us know what you think it will bring to the table.) And honestly, this won't help matters at all. Looks like there are some different variations of the iPhone OS 4.0 already moving around Cupertino.

As you can see from the image on the right, 4.0 isn't the only version being floated around right now. Both 4.0.1 and 4.1 are also marked in the usage stats tracked by PixelCUBE Studios. The Studio uses Pinch Media for their analytics needs, and when they called up a recent report, they found that above image waiting for them. So that makes three versions right now: 4.0, 4.0.1, and 4.1. Now, it's not surprising that Apple would have multiple releases being tested at one time, but that doesn't mean our interest isn't piqued.

After all, the iPhone is currently on a different iPhone OS version than the recently released iPad. Do these multiple versions of iPhone OS 4.0 mean that they're preparing versions for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad? More importantly, will these versions be reduced to the 4.0 title, and installed on all three devices at the same time? Or, will the iPad be left to wait for that 4.1 mark? So many questions, and yet so little time to wait before we get all of them (hopefully) answered. So, now we must wait.
