ioSafe Solo SSD is world's first disaster proof external SSD

When it comes to backing up data most people use external hard drives. The external HDD can be had in many different styles and form factors and most of them use either 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch HDDs inside like you would find in the average notebook or desktop. ioSafe has announced what it claims to be the world's first SSD external storage solution.

The drive is called the ioSafe Solo SSD and uses a military grade metal housing that can protect the drive from the crush force of a two-story building collapse. The case will also protect against drops up to 20 feet and a 1000g shock.

The drive is robust enough to survive submersion in up to 30-feet of water for 30 days. The solo SSD includes the ioSafe data recovery process to restore data in a damaged drive or one infected by viruses. The drive will ship in February for $499 for 64GB, $749 for 128GB, or $1250 for 256GB.
