iOS 5.1 is now available for download

Apple's just announced iOS 5.1 update is available now for download on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. The update was shown running on the new iPad, formerly iPad 3 or iPad HD, unveiled this morning and is expected to roll out over-the-air starting today. New Siri Japanese language support in iOS 5.1 was highlighted during Apple's presentation among a host of other improvements.

iOS 5.1 will include a new voice dictation feature for the iPad that will support US, UK, and Australian English along with French, German, and Japanese. Support for Japanese was just announced this morning and will also hit Siri on the iPhone 4S. However, the Japanese Siri will not be available immediately and is expected to roll out to Japan over the next few weeks.

The update also includes improvements to the camera interface, bringing camera shortcuts to the lock screens of the iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and the fourth generation iPod Touch. Face detection and the ability to delete photos from Apple's Photo Stream are also new enhancements.

Additionally, Apple has added Genius Mixes and Genius playlist for iTunes Match subscribers, podcast controls for playback speed and a 30-second rewind for the iPad, and optimized audio for TV shows and movies on the iPad. The AT&T network indicator has been updated and the bugs affecting battery life have been fixed.

To download iOS 5.1 you can simply go to the Software Update section in the Settings of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.
