inPulse BlackBerry Bluetooth watch up for preorder; won't ship until Feb 2010

The leaked inPulse Bluetooth watch for BlackBerry smartphones spotted earlier this month has been officially launched, with manufacturer Allerta offering the wireless timepiece for preorder.  $149 gets you a 1.3-inch OLED display that can show previews of emails, SMS and other messages, together with incoming call details and alarms, helping you to decide whether or not to whip your BlackBerry out of your pocket.

The inPulse isn't a phone in itself; instead it hooks up to your BlackBerry via Bluetooth 2.0 and – thanks to an app on the smartphone – basically offers a remote display.  All of the settings, including the watch's own time and alarms, are handled by the BlackBerry.

There's both audible and vibrating alerts, and a microUSB port for charging; the software on the BlackBerry itself can be updated OTA.  The inPulse has a 150mAh Li-Ion battery, and Allerta claim that's good enough for around 4 days; however, that's showing 20-30 updates per day, which sounds on a low side for the kind of power-user who might find the inPulse appealing.  Shipping isn't expected to begin until February 2010, so you'll have some time to wait.
