Ingress for iOS arrives: augmented reality game on your iPhone

Ingress, Google's augmented reality game long available on Android, has finally arrived on Apple's platform. There was little fanfare with its arrival, but the game is available to download now from the App Store.

Google launched the iOS version of Ingress with no official announcement, leaving iOS users to stumble upon it in the App Store. As with the Android version, those who download will be on the prowl for Exotic Matter in the real world, gathering it under The Resistance or The Enlightened.

Though the game is and has been played across the globe, it has never had a strong public push. The surfacing of an iOS app could indicate there's a change about, though its quiet launch might further indicate that Google is keeping things on the down-low for the time being.

The app has been designed for both the iPad and iPhone, requiring iOS 5.0 or later. The app comes in at a chunky 44MB, and is available in German and Japanese as well as English. Love the game? Check out the timeline below for more news!
