Incoming Nexus 6 may have killed off Nexus 5

If you needed any more indication that a Nexus 6 smartphone is on the horizon, we may have stumbled onto a neat tidbit of info. When asked why the Nexus 5 was no longer on their support page, a Canadian carrier's support page mentioned the Nexus 5 was no longer in stock, and wasn't being sold. Further down the conversational line, we find that the Nexus 5 might be out of rotation entirely.

In response to a customer, Wind Mobile said via Twitter they had no more Nexus 5 back-stock, and that it was no longer being produced. Leading into the Fall, Google is likely gearing up for a Nexus 6 launch, which would be the followup device for their current flagship, the allegedly no-longer-rolling-off-the-assembly-line Nexus 5.

Wind didn't say how long they'd been out of stock, or just when production may have ended. The conversation has since been deleted, but a screenshot is posted above for you.

As we near the Motorola 'Shamu' making its splash as the Nexus 6, News of the Nexus 5 falling out of production favor isn't really surprising. Unlike your average OEM, Google doesn't relegate their former flagships to the discount bin. If you don't grab one when it's current, the Nexus device you want may not be around much longer.

That said, if you've really wanted a Nexus 5, but haven't yet found the push to snap one up — now is the time, it seems. If the device really is out of production, it's fast becoming a relic of the past. Still, the Nexus 6 looks like a really nice handset, so don't fret if you don't get that LG-made Nexus.
