Google has officially announced an end for Inbox by Gmail, something users expected following the introduction of the new Gmail experience. Inbox by Gmail isn't going away immediately — users will have until March 2019 to decide on an alternative. Google launched Inbox by Gmail about four years ago, presenting it as an email app to complement Gmail, changing the way users experience their digital mail. The app presented features not found in the Gmail experience and earned itself some faithful users as a result.

Back in April, though, Google launched its new Gmail experience, which includes many of the features first introduced in Inbox. In the new experience, users can directly access actions on the emails within the Gmail inbox, snooze emails until a later time, send emails under a confidential mode, and more.

The arrival of these features in Gmail rightly spurred speculation that Inbox by Gmail would be retired. On the app's Web page, Google confirms that Inbox will be shuttered in March 2019; the company instead points users toward the new Gmail for many of the same features.
