Impossibly difficult Super Mario cheat glitch pulled off

The classics are making a comeback, and in more ways than one. Super Mario, one of the most beloved gaming franchises in the world, is back in the press, not because of a hot new game or a retro old game, but because of how people are stretching the game beyond what the developers intended. Like giving it a brain to play itself. Now a high-profile YouTuber is earning views because of how he managed to hit a very intricate glitch that let him finish Super Mario World in just 6 minute, without facing the final boss.

This achievement is impressive in two major ways. The first is in the technical nature of the glitch. According to YouTube personality SethBling, the series of moves he made was basically causing the game to be rewritten in memory, while the game is still running. Now, modders and hackers might belittle this, but this was done on the original Super Nintendo console and on the original Super Mario World game, without an emulator and without extrinsic modification.

The second way it is notable is in how the glitch has to be executed, which requires nonsensical patterns, almost impossible timing, and an almost infinite amount of patience. This stunt deserves a "do not try this at home" warning, not because it is dangerous, but because it will undoubtedly drive you insane.

Here's SethBling's original attempt at the glitch, mistakes and all.

He even managed to beat his own record and made under run, finishing the game in under 5 minutes.

You can definitely see the feeling of victory on his face. After all, after half a dozen attempts at almost pixel perfect positioning and precise timing, it's a testament to his amount of self-control that he didn't jump up and down on camera at all.
