IFA 2007 - Sharp prompt gasps with 20mm LCD TV
Sharp really pulled out the stops at IFA 2007 with some TVs so thin they'd drive a supermodel to organ removal. Undoubtedly star of the show was a 20mm thick LCD Aquos prototype, encased in a sheet of glass, only 29mm at its thickest point and weighing a ridiculous 25kg. Despite the lack of depth it was in no way lacking in the specs department; a 100,000:1 contrast ratio saw to that.
We might be waiting for a while to see 20mm thick sets in our living rooms, but if Sharp has anything to do with it we'll have one of these instead.
The XL2E range will consist of 42", 46" and 52" models each supporting 1080p high-definition, 1920 x 1080 resolution and 100 hertz technology.
They also showed a particularly pleasing hideaway LCD, which retracted into a gloss-finished cabinet.
