Hyundai unveils Veloster Turbo R-Spec

Hyundai has announced the addition of another compact sporty version of the Veloster Turbo to its lineup. The car is called the Veloster Turbo R-Spec. The same 1.6L direct-injection turbocharged engine that other Veloster Turbo models use will power the car. The R-spec model will get some unique design cues.

On the outside, the R-Spec version of the car gets red exterior accents on the front splitter and side blades. The seats get red leatherette bolsters with red and black cloth sport seats rather than leather. The car also gets special R-Spec embroidered floor mats and R-Spec exterior badges.

Hyundai is also tuning the car with unique R-spec suspension and steering for a more agile feel when behind the wheel. The car will only be available with a six speed manual transmission. All R-Spec models will come with a B&M Racing Sport Shifter providing a tighter and more precise shifting feel.

The R-Spec model will be available in white, black, blue, and gray colors. Hyundai says that in keeping with the R-spec purist driving focus, the car loses some of the stock options of other Veloster Turbo models. Options that are deleted include proximity-key entry, push button start, the premium gauge cluster, side repeater mirrors, auto up window on the driver's side, and the full leather heated seats. The upside is that the R-Spec will be the cheapest Veloster Turbo model starting at $22,180 including destination. Production begins in December 2013 with availability in early February 2014.
