Hulu said to be developing pricier tier with no ads

If you're a fan of Hulu's subscription service, but hate the fact that you are still forced to watch advertisements even when paying $7.99 a month for the existing premium tier (formerly known as "Plus"), good news may be on the way. As long as you don't mind paying a little more, that is. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Hulu is looking into offering a more expensive tier that would have no ads whatsoever.

According to the WSJ, Hulu has codenamed the service "NOAH" — for No Ads Hulu. One source told the publication that Hulu is considering prices of $12 to $14 per month, and that the new tier may launch as soon as this fall.

While Hulu has the strength of its own exclusive content, especially with the recent partnership with Showtime, the service is still at a disadvantage to Netflix, which offers a basic, standard-definition streaming plan for $7.99 per month, and an upgrade to HD for only $1 more. Neither of these plans have commercials.

Further evidence that a new premium tier from Hulu may be on the horizon is the fact that they dropped the "Plus" name from their existing paid tier. This could mean the name will be shifted to NOAH, or they just want to reduce confusion with the upcoming premium plan.
