Google has practically given up on tablets, or rather on Android tablets, but others certainly haven't. There's a Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 still coming but if that wait is too long, there's still Huawei's MediaPad M5 series. Now the tablets are available in the US and if you're looking for more up-to-date specs on an Android slate, then this is the tablet to beat. For a price, of course.

Announced at MWC earlier this year, the Huawei MediaPad M5 was is a not so subtle stab at Apple's iPad market. Design similarities will definitely be a point of comparison or contention but, as they say, beauty is only skin deep.

Inside, the MediaPad M5 sports late 2017 mobile specs. That includes the next to latest Kirin 960 processor paired with 4 GB of RAM and 32 to 128 GB of storage. The screen has a widescreen resolution of 2560x1600, regardless of the size. There are two or four speakers, tuned by Harman Kardon, that would again call to mind the iPad, but the similarities don't stop there.

Just like the iPad, there are two kinds of MediaPad M5 tablets. There's the Pro version, which only comes in the 10.8-inch model and has support for an active stylus. The non-Pro models come in both 10.8-inch and 8.4-inch sizes and don't support the stylus. They are, of course, cheaper as well.

The Huawei MediaPad M5 tablets are now available from Amazon in Space Grey color and with a US warranty. The MediaPad M5 8.4-inch has a price tag of $320 while the non-Pro 10.8-inch tablet goes for $360. The MediaPad M5 Pro 10.8-inch sells for $450 and comes with the "M Pen" in the box.
