HTC: We can't meet our 90-day deadline for Android Lollipop

When Android Lollipop hit AOSP, HTC was quick to announce they'd be updating their handsets within 90 days. In fact, they were the first OEM to give themselves a deadline for Lollipop, saying "We have the Android Lollipop code. We'll be updating the HTC One (M8) & (M7) within 90 days form today." That was November 3. As February draws near, fans have undoubtedly been wondering when HTC would update their handset. HTC now says they won't meet their self-imposed deadline, and offer no new deadline for Lollipop.

HTC also pus the blame on Google a bit in announcing they'd miss their deadline. Mo Versi, HTC's Vice President of Product Management said "if you've been following the progress of this rollout you will know that Google has had to address several issues with this release. We've been diligently working to fix some of them on our end and incorporating Google's fixes as quickly as possible, but despite everyone's best efforts some carrier versions of the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) will not meet our 90 day goal".

Versi went on to say they would deliver a fix as close to their 90-day goal as possible, but couldn't say when that might be. So far, HTC has updated their Google Play edition, Unlocked, and Developer editions of the One (M8).

If you bought into HTC for a quick update process, we don't know what to tell you. While the clarity is appreciated, it's another stumble for HTC — one they all but promised they'd never make again.
