HTC Desire 612 smartphone hits Verizon tomorrow

The market is full of budget-centric smartphones that have started bringing with them features you wouldn't have found on such handsets a relatively short while ago. Among this emerging redefinition of lower-end smartphones is the HTC Desire 612, an entry-level Android handset that boasts both XLTE and the maker's BoomSound as its two biggest bragging points, as well as a notable 4.7-inch HD display. Verizon has detailed the phone, announcing that it will begin offering it starting tomorrow for free alongside a two-year contract.

The phone will be available exclusively at Verizon Wireless, with Verizon Edge being an option for those who qualify. Verizon is teasing a limited time promotion of an an extra gigabyte of data for More Everything subscribers who meet certain conditions.

The handset itself runs Android 4.4 KitKat alongside a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and up to 8GB of storage. There's an expansion slot that supports microSD cards up to 128GB, as well. Verizon Cloud storage with 25GB will be given to those who sign up on a More Everything plan.

There's an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, as well as XLTE support, HTC's BlinkFeed news feed, front-facing speakers, NFL Mobile for the current game season, and a 2040mAh battery. It appears the phone will only be available in black with red trim.
