HP wants to "reinvent computing" with a phone called Elite x3
The folks at HP responsible for reinventing computing have created a device by the name of HP Elite x3. This device is a Windows 10 mobile device – a smartphone – that works with Continuum. That means it's able to plug in to a dock and act as a desktop machine. "The HP Elite x3 is a revolutionary mobile platform that enables mobility and computing to come together in a truly meaningful way," said said Dion Weisler, president and chief executive officer, HP Inc. "Together with the strength of our partners, we're propelling the industry forward and turning the promise of mobile productivity into a reality for customers."
This is HP's attempt at capitalizing on the Windows 10 adoption trend. They've suggested that there's lots of excitement surrounding the release of Windows 10, including by those that otherwise skipped past generations of Windows for one reason or another. That means Windows 8.
One feature in particular has the company especially excited – Windows Continuum. This technology allows the smartphone operating system to turn into a desktop operating system (on a larger display) once the smartphone is plugged in to a larger display.
HP's Elite x3 works with a Qualcomm processor, 4GB of RAM, and a lovely front-facing Bang and Olufsen speaker system. An 8-megapixel camera up front is made ready for video conferencing, and several USB ports (for the one device) make the Elite x3 appear to be the most well-prepared Continuum-friendly device yet revealed.
