HP Slate gets video overview: 5yrs in the making

One of the more talked about tablets at CES 2010 turned out to be one the manufacturer wasn't even officially debuting; Microsoft CES Steve Ballmer took HP's unnamed slate up on stage and then proceeded to tell us very little about it.  Happily HP themselves have decided to spill some more of their touchscreen beans, and it turns out they've been working on the device for about five years and even had it ready two years ago.

Two years ago, HP Personal Systems Group CTO Phil McKinney says, the company had the hardware ready; problem was, it would've cost $1,500.  Now, though, hardware and software are at that magic point where it's at a (unspecified) consumer price point and offers the sort of multimedia functionality users are looking for.  Still no word on a specific release date; all McKinney will repeat is the 2010 window.
