HP EliteDisplay E243p Sure View Monitor keeps shoulder surfers out

It isn't just smartphones that are prone to having curious bystanders taking a sneak peek at the screen. Even more critical are computer screens in offices or, worse, public spaces that may be susceptible to shoulder surfing by unauthorized people, be it hackers, spies, or just curious passers-by. To help combat that, HP has developed together with 3M its "Sure View" privacy screen technology which it is now putting on its new EliteDisplay E243p, up for display, no pun intended, here at CES 2019.

The concept is really simple. At the push of a button, Sure View will dim the monitor's brightness and artificially reduce its viewing angles down to around 80 degrees. While this won't adversely affect the own user's experience, it ensures that those trying to steal a glance, and some information, from the sides won't be able to do so.

Other than that, the EliteDisplay E243p Sure View is pretty much your standard IPS LCD screen, no other gimmicks inside or on the surface. It comes in a 23.8-inch panel with a resolution of 1920x1080 and a refresh rate for 60 Hz. Input ports include one DisplayPort 1.2, one D-Sub, and one HDMI 1.4. It also has two USB 3.0 ports for acting as a hub.

As it stands, the HP EliteDisplay E243p Sure View Monitor is a pretty basic screen design with a specific use case in mind. Very secretive companies will probably be interested in it, though, and can save up for the privacy display when it launches next month for $379.99.
