HP Chromebook x360 14 unveiled with premium convertible design

HP has launched a new premium laptop running Google's Chrome OS, the new HP Chromebook x360 14. This model boasts convertible functionality, what HP calls a premium design, and durability thanks in part to a protective, decorative coating. Unlike many Chromebooks, the Chromebook x360 has a fairly large display at 14-inches, and it also packs 8th-generation Intel Core processors.

The HP Chromebook x360 14 features a 14-inch Full HD IPS display with a WLED backlight, multitouch support, and an edge-to-edge design. Buyers have a couple processor options, the 8th-generation Intel Core i3 and i5, these joined by 64GB eMMC internal storage and 8GB of RAM.

The Chromebook can be used with Skype and similar video chatting software thanks to a built-in HP Wide Vision HD webcam with dual-array digital microphones. A 360-degree hinge makes the Chromebook x360 a "convertible" model, enabling the screen to be rotated back into one of four different modes.

The chassis is metal and covered with what HP calls a "ceramic-like" finish, the result being something that feels like ceramic but maintains a higher level of durability. Connectivity is pretty standard with Bluetooth 4.2 and 802.11b/g/n/ac WiFi. Other features include battery life lasting up to 13 hours and 30 minutes per charge, a "barely visible bezel," and B&O PLAY audio alongside dual speakers.

The HP Chromebook x360 14 is now available to preorder from HP.com and BestBuy.com for $599 USD; the device should be available to purchase in Best Buy stores, as well, starting on October 21.
