Honor View30 Pro released with V30 specs, without Google

The device called Honor V30 Pro was shown in a different iteration this week for the world outside of China with the name Honor View30 Pro. This device is the first major smartphone released by Huawei / Honor with HMS, Huawei Mobile Services, the Huawei-made alternative to GMS, or Google Mobile Services. This device works with essentially the same hardware as its V30 Pro brethren.

The Honor View30 Pro has a 6.57-inch FullView display with FHD+ resolution. That's 2400 x 1080 pixels, with 400 pixels per inch, NTSC 96%, and 16.7-million colors in full effect. This device has a pill-shaped punch hole in its upper left-hand corner for a pair of front-facing cameras.

One of these front-facing cameras is a 32MP AI Selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and AIS "Super Night mode". The other is an 8MP wide angle selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture and a 105-degree super-wide angle lens.

Back-facing cameras include a 40MP, 12MP, and 8MP camera. The 40MP camera has a Sony IMX600 sensor and f/1.6 aperture, AI Ultra Clarity mode, and laser focus sensor. The 12MP unit is a super wide angle camera (cine-lens) with f/2.2 aperture, 109-degree super-wide angle lens, 4-in-1 light fusion tech (effective 1.4um pixels), macro photo abilities, and its own laser focus sensor. The 8MP camera has an f/2.4 aperture and 3x lossless optical zoom abilities.

Powering the processing in the Honor View30 Pro is a 7nm+EUV Kirin 990 AI chipset with dual NPU. It has a choice of 128GB or 256GB internal storage and 8GB RAM. There's a 4100mAh battery inside with the ability to charge at 27W Wireless SuperCharge speeds (52% in 30 minutes), or 40W Wired SuperCharge speeds (70% in 30 minutes).

5G connectivity with this device includes: 5G NR: N1/ N3/ N41/ N77/ N78/ N79. This is 5G dual-mode support. There's a fingerprint sensor on this device – side-mounted! This isn't the first device to have a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, but it is a bit of a rarity.

Software in this device is Honor's own Magic UI 3.0.1 based on Android 10. This device is built with Android, but it's not a Google-certified version of Android. Instead, this device is working with HMS, the first of many devices working with HMS instead of GMS.

This means you cannot use Google apps like Gmail, Google Maps, or the Google Play App Store. Google confirmed this bit of info in an update just this weekend, just to make sure everyone was crystal clear on the facts.

Colors for this device include Ocean Blue, Midnight Black, Icelandic Frost, and Sunrise Orange. Honor V30 Pro was revealed with a price around 3,899 yuan a few weeks ago – new pricing for this View 30 Pro version was not yet solidified at the global launch. We'll know more about the launch and pricing in the near future. It's expected that pricing for the Honor View 30 Pro will start around $550-$600 USD.
