Honor View10 AI phone US pre-orders go live: smart features galore

The AI-powered smartphone Honor View10 showcased during CES 2018 is now available to preorder in the United States. According to the company, the View10 is the world's first "AI phone," a model sporting intelligent features thanks to its advanced neural network processing unit (NPU) hardware. Among other things, this technology powers the phone's AI front camera portrait mode and motion detection abilities.

The Honor View10 has a 5.99-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, as well as a Kirin 970 AI processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a 20-megapixel rear dual-lens camera, a 13-megapixel front-facing camera, and it runs Huawei's EMUI 8, which is based on Android 8.0. Among other things, the integrated NPU and AI capabilities mean the phone uses deep learning based around the user's own behavior.

Users will find the features they'd expect in a high-end smartphone; the modern, sleek design aside, the View10 sports a fingerprint sensor, rounded edges, dual-camera, advanced mobile photography features, fast charging (50% in 30 minutes), AI-based face unlock, dual-SIM slots, and dual LTE/VoLTE.

The mobile photography abilities are part of the View10's appeal. As mentioned above, this model supports motion detection using its AI foundation, that feature designed for capturing quick moments using the camera. As well, the front-facing camera is able to discern the subject from the background using AI, which gives selfies the desired shallow depth of field (blurred background) look that has become popular.

The phone is also targeted at mobile gamers, boasting a trio of modes depending on usage and needs: power saving mode, normal mode, and gaming mode. The latter optimizes the phone for mobile gaming needs, that itself joined by Network Acceleration for decreasing latency. Gaming mode also gets rid of unnecessary notifications to help avoid disrupting gameplay.

Customers located in the US can buy the phone as of today in Midnight Black and Navy Blue for $499 USD. Shipments will start on March 22.
