Honda Boosts Takata Air Bag Recall By 104k Cars
Honda has announced plans to expand its Takata air bag recall by another 104,000 vehicles. This follows closely after an advertisement campaign initiated by the auto maker that aimed to inform owners about the existing recall and encourage them to get their vehicle serviced, assuming it was covered by the recall. Honda has been hit particularly hard over past months with this particular issue, and at least six deaths have been linked to the faulty air bags being used.
The Takata air bag recalls concern faulty air bags that can deploy with too much force in the event of a wreck or similar issue. When this happens, metal bits can be propelled out at the driver, causing injuries to the driver and/or passengers. This has, unfortunately, proven fatal on multiple occasions, and was forced to become a nationwide recall last year by the NHTSA. High humidity levels are believed to be a factor.

Under this new recall, the Honda Pilot is primarily being recalled, though more than 10,000 Honda Civics and more than 5,000 2001 model year Honda Accords are being recalled. This is only a small number compared to the millions Honda has already recalled concerning the problem. The 2008 Pilots are an entirely new addition, having never previously been recalled for this issue.
As with past recalls, Honda will be notifying affected owners of the recall, at which point they'll be able to schedule with their local dealership to have the air bag replaced. Be sure to check out the timeline below for additional recent recalls from other auto makers.
