Hearthstone card nerfs and HoF: No more even, no more odd!
There's a lot about to change in the next major update to Hearthstone with the Year of the Dragon! Updates to formats, new sets, and a whole lot of major knockouts! Some new cards and some old cards are getting moved to the "Hall of Fame" with this new expansion. Easily the two most major of these are both Baku the Mooneater and Genn Greymane. It's time to head back to an age where we didn't need to think about overpowered Hero Powers again, hooray!
Where we've generally seen a lot of nerfing of cards when something seems overpowering or game-altering, in this case these cards are getting straight up axed. Hall of Fame means the cards can still be used in Wild, but not in Standard format. Since they were sort of part of the fun of the odd-even action here, a set of other cards are going to the Hall of Fame as well. Those include: Gloom Stag, Black Cat, Glitter Moth, and Murkspark Eel.
Three cards that've been in the standard format of the game for a WHILE are heading to the Hall of Fame, too. Those include Naturalize, Doomguard, and Divine Favor.
For ALL of these cards moving to the Hall of Fame, the DUST will be handled the same. Though you will be unable to use these cards in standard format, you will be granted "full Arcane Dust value" for the cards. You'll get to keep the cards, but you'll get their dust's worth automatically. This dust will be credited to you upon login after the start of the Year of the Dragon.
And yes, you can most likely go ahead and turn them to dust to get their worth again – so that's neat.
In new sets, out the old
When the Year of the Dragon begins, the three oldest card sets will be retired to Wild format. That means they'll not be able to be used in standard format at all! Since these three sets include some fairly major cards, this should serve to shake the game up in a significant way.
Journey to Un'Goro, Knights of the Frozen Throne, and Kobolds & Catacombs will be kicked directly to the curb! The Witchwood, The Boomsday Project, and Rastakhan's Rumble will be in play for the entirety of this year, alongside all three sets that'll be released in the next 12 months.
