HBO shows hit Amazon Prime Instant Video (but no GoT)

HBO shows have turned up on Amazon Prime Instant Video for the first time, with titles like The Sopranos, The Wire, Band of Brothers, and more all available for those subscribing to the retailer's on-demand service. The deal sees a mixture of full seasons, select current episodes, movies, and one-off specials from HBO added to Amazon's catalog, having previously only been offered to HBO subscribers themselves.

The deal was announced back in April. It will also include an HBO GO app for Amazon's Fire TV set-top box to be released later this year, complete with support for the voice search system built into the Bluetooth remote.

Exactly which content is available in full will depend on age, among other factors. For instance, all seasons of The Sopranos and The Wire will be offered, but only "select seasons" of current shows like True Blood and Boardwalk Empire.

HBO has said that there'll be a roughly three year delay – between the first time it airs the title itself, and when it arrives as part of Amazon's catalog – so as to maintain its sense of exclusivity.

Still to come are Girls, The Newsroom, and Veep, but a hit title like Game of Thrones is conspicuous by its absence.
