Harry Potter Kano Coding Kit teaches kids to code a magic wand

Kano has launched a new coding kit that helps kids build their own magic wands. Called the Harry Potter Kano Coding Kit, this set includes both the hardware and software needed to make a Harry Potter fan's world a bit magical while teaching valuable coding skills that help build the foundation for a future career. The kit won't be available until October 1, but Kano has it up for pre-order with a limited free item tossed in.

Kano's latest coding kit revolves around a Harry Potter theme, offering a physical wand that detects movements, as well as an app with more than 70 step-by-step challenges. The software supports Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS, and introduces beginners to things like variables, loops, and logic.

On-screen wand effects and actions are made possible by arranging JavaScript code blocks, each block representing an element or action related to the wand and its digital magic. Blocks are placed together similar to puzzle pieces; when arranged properly, kids can use their wands to draw with fire, move a feather, and similar actions.

The educational kit has a game-like element to it that helps motivate kids to progress in the system. Users unlock creatures, costumes, experience points, and medals as they progress, says Kano.

The Harry Potter Kano Coding Kit is designed for kids as young as 6-years-old. Parents can pre-order now for $99.99 USD with delivery scheduled for October 1. As well, Kano is offering a free Motion Sensor Kit with the pre-orders while its inventory is available.
