Volvo S90 Ambience Concept Gallery

Volvo isn't short of high-end cars, but it's looking to do more with the senses with its new S90 Ambience Concept. Prepared with the Chinese market in mind, it'll make its debut at the Beijing Auto Show. It's already based on one of the automaker's more unusual vehicles.

That's the S90 L Excellence, a three-seater version of the S90. Gone is the front passenger seat, replaced with an ottoman for the person in the rear to stretch out on. For the Ambience Concept, that also adds seven different themes, intended to variously relax, energize, or simply distract you on long trips.

They're controlled via a smartphone app, and each has a combination of projected light effects, a custom soundtrack, and bespoke scents. Volvo says that, though currently a concept, it does have plans to offer the Ambience system on its production vehicles.
