The AMG Fast Family Haulers Gallery

Long before the SUV ousted the minivan as the de-facto family transportation, we had the station wagon. Now struggling to find favor, in the US at least, outside of a few loyalists, the humble wagon has actually been secretly growing up without most people noticing. Witness, for example, the Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon.

603 horsepower from a V8 engine is nothing to scoff at. Neither is all the practicality that a wagon body offers, or the fact that Mercedes-AMG's specially tuned 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system can replicate a rear-wheel drive car for track days or just focus on getting you, the family, and all the associated cargo home safe, regardless of the weather. Not to mention with much less body roll than an SUV would subject you to.

While a six-figure car may not be the vehicle that brings wagons back to the mainstream, it's still good to see that the body style isn't disappearing completely. And, with the sort of clandestine reputation that means only those seriously in-the-know about their super-wagons will recognize the E63 S' talents, this manages to be arguably more rare than most supercars, too.
