Rolls-Royce Koa Phantom Gallery

There's lavish, and then there's Rolls-Royce lavish. Turns out, when the Phantom VIII meets a car collector with deep pockets, high demands, and plenty of patience, the British automaker's team is capable of something particularly special. While this particular long-wheelbase Phantom may not look extreme at first glance, it hides a seriously time-consuming journey.

The exterior is color-matched to a special shade of blue only offered on the 1934 Packard Twelve Coupe, which just so happened to be in the private collection of Jack Boyd Smith, Jr. He also foot the bill for this bespoke Phantom, with Rolls-Royce's team trying 40+ different attempts to get the color just right. That, though, was nothing compared to the interior.

There, Smith wanted Hawaiian Koa wood, both beautiful and rare. So rare, indeed, it took more than three years to find a suitable – and sufficiently large – piece for the woodworking team to take their saws and knives to. The result is a cabin like that of no other Phantom, and a matching picnic hamper.
