Your eyes do not deceive you, and no, you’ve not gone back in time. The Motorola Razr is back, but while the clamshell may be present and correct, there’s a thoroughly modern smartphone to be found inside once you crack it open. That starts with a sheet of flexible OLED and of course Android.
The 2019 Razr is a foldable, but it’s a little different to the approach of the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X. Rather than a big phone that opens out into a mini-tablet, the new Razr is a regularly-scaled 6.2-inch smartphone when open, but a much smaller device when closed. Much happier in your pocket or purse.
An external touchscreen offers access to the essentials, and you can dictate replies to messages and emails via the Google Assistant. Or, you can go old-school and call people like you used to, hanging up at the end by snapping the Razr shut. That’s just the sort of retro we can get behind.
