The new Surface Book 2 may look the same, but there’s plenty new here. Joining the 15-inch form factor is a new 13.5 inch model, for those wanting more portability from their 2-in-1 hybrid. Both have the detachable tablet-screen that impressed so many people when the notebook was first unveiled back in 2015.
Inside, the big news is Intel’s 8th-generation Core i7 range. It’s paired with NVIDIA GeForce graphics on some models, and now the Surface Book 2 has a USB Type-C port along with its USB Type-A and SDXC memory card slot. That addresses a big complaint by existing users.
Most impressive of all is the battery life. Microsoft says that, in typical use, the Surface Book 2 should last for up to 17 hours; the tablet section on its own should last for 5 hours. They’ll ship in November 2017.
