Mercedes-Benz EQ Silver Arrow Gallery

Does an electric car have to be a dull box? Mercedes-Benz says no, and the EQ Silver Arrow concept is the automaker's evidence. Making its debut at Monterey Car Week 2018, the striking EV borrows classic racing style and combines it with thoroughly modern technology.

So, it looks very much like the 1937 W 125 twelve-cylinder race car from the outside, but with a twist. Partially free-standing multi-spoke wheels – each with 168 rose gold-painted aluminum spokes – deliver the EV drivetrain's 738 horsepower to the road. Inside, there's a projection dashboard, which can show a "ghost" race car to teach you the best line on the track.

Mercedes says you could expect more than 250 miles of range, though as a single-seater you won't be bringing along any company – or much luggage, for that matter. Still, since the automaker won't be putting this particular electric car into production, that's a moot point. Instead expect hints of its design language to show up in future EVs from the firm.
