Hyundai FE Fuel Cell Concept Gallery

Hyundai is another automaker onboard the fuel-cell train, with the company bringing its latest hydrogen-powered concept to the Geneva Motor Show this week. The Hyundai FE Fuel Cell Concept is the Korean firm's vision of a potential green SUV, emitting naught but water as it carries up to five people. According to Hyundai, maximum range would be around 500 miles.

Outside, it's clearly more futuristic than Hyundai's actual current fuel cell car, the Tucson Fuel Cell (aka ix35 Fuel Cell). The designers say that's to pick up on themes of running water, though it's also more aerodynamically efficient courtesy of features like the rear air-foil and integrated vents. In the trunk, there's an electric scooter which can be recharged by the hydrogen system.

In fact, one of the FE Fuel Cell Concept's main goals is to make its hydrogen power more usable. To that end, portable battery packs are included – charged, like the scooter, by the fuel cell system – which can be pulled out and used to run other devices. Elements of the concept, Hyundai says, will shape a future production model SUV, though that's not expected to appear until 2018.
