2022 VW ID.5 Gallery

Volkswagen's electrification continues, with the ID.5 and ID.5 GTX joining the growing range of EVs in its line-up. Like the ID.4 and ID.3, the new E-SUV Coupes rely on the MEB platform, VW's dedicated architecture for electric models. However, it tops that with a more swooping design.

The result, VW says, will be a more premium pair of EVs and some long-running ones. Final range figures will be confirmed closer to the cars' market launch in 2022, but the automaker says it'll be "extensive" with a long-range battery as standard. On the move, drivers will get crowdsourced "swarm" data to help get previews of nearby emergencies, accidents, and hazards.

Inside, it'll be more of the same, pseudo-minimalist cabin design as we've seen in prior ID models. Big displays, lots of clean space, and eco-friendly materials. The ID.5 will have a single rear motor, while the ID.5 GTX will crank up the performance with both front and rear motors. Final specifications and pricing will be confirmed closer to launch.
