2022 Lexus IS 500 F SPORT Performance Gallery

Naturally-aspirated performance engines are a rarity these days, which is why the 2022 Lexus IS 500 F SPORT Performance is so unusual. Under its bulging hood is Lexus' beloved 5.0-liter V8 gas engine: no turbocharging, no supercharging, and no electrification. Just 472 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque, arriving at 7,100 rpm and 4,800 rpm respectively.

The result is 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds, with power routed to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic sports transmission. It should sound the part, too, with quad tailpipes, while newly-tuned drive modes will help coax the best out of the V8. Outside, new, lighter alloy wheels are paired with beefier brakes, along with different styling.

Inside, meanwhile, the latest IS' cabin tech has been carried over, plus new active safety equipment. The goal, after all, is a sports sedan that can be as comfortable to drive – or ride in – as it's fearsome when pushed hard; Lexus even predicts it should do 24 mpg on the highway. The 2022 Lexus IS 500 F SPORT Performance will arrive in US dealerships in the fall of 2021. Pricing will be confirmed closer to that point.
