2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Gallery

The Wrangler is a legitimate off-road icon, and it's fair to say purists were at least mildly concerned that Jeep's plans for electrification might undermine that. They shouldn't have worried: the 2021 Wrangler 4xe is official, and it's shaping up to be arguably the best pick of the Wrangler range. Combining a 2.0-liter turbo inline-4 gas engine with two electric motors, it promises instant torque and near-silent off-road running.

There's enough power from the batteries under the rear seats for up to 25 miles of electric-only driving. With gas and electric working in tandem, Jeep expects a 50 MPGe EPA rating. Three drive modes adjust how the Wrangler 4xe uses its electric power, and there'll be a Wrangler Rubicon 4xe version which makes sure no off-road ability is sacrificed along the way.

That includes a Rock-Trac 4x4 system with a two-speed transfer case with 4:1 low-range gear ratio, full-time 4x4, Dana 44 axles, and Tru-Lok electric front- and rear-axle lockers. 17-inch off-road wheels with 33-inch tires leave it looking the part, too. Expect the new Wrangler 4xe in Jeep dealerships by early 2021.
