2020 VW Passat Gallery

Can the Volkswagen Passat be dramatic... or dare we say it, even sexy? That's what VW is trying for with the 2020 Passat, a sleek re-envisioning of the sedan with a swooping roofline and coupe-style detailing. It makes its debut at the Detroit Auto Show 2019.

The 2.0-liter inline-four engine of the old car is carried forward, however with a new torque convertor. That pushes torque to 207 lb-ft, to go with the 174 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is standard, as is a 6-speed automatic Tiptronic transmission.

Inside, there's a new dashboard design and a glass touchscreen for the standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto-compatible infotainment system. Blind spot monitoring and rear traffic alerts are standard, while dual-zone climate control and adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assistance will be optional. It'll go on sale in the US come summer 2019.
