2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Gallery

Volkswagen knows North American drivers love their SUVs, and so it's making a special version of the Atlas just for them. Based on the existing three-row SUV – itself already heavily tailored for the US market – the 2020 Atlas Cross Sport does away with the last row of seats in favor of more aggressive styling. Without the third row you can seat five, and get a more aesthetic rake to the roofline and rear glass.

Inside, since it has the same wheelbase as the regular Atlas, cabin space is almost the same. There's 40.3 cubic feet of trunk space with the rear seats up; fold them down, and that expands to 77.8 cubic feet. VW has also given the cabin new detailing, like a redesigned steering wheel, door and seat trim, and options like ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and wireless phone charging.

As for engines, there'll be two: a turbo-four with 235 hp, and a V6 with 276 hp. Each will be paired with 4Motion all-wheel drive and an 8-speed transmission. Blind spot monitoring, forward Collision Warning with autonomous braking, and rear traffic alerts are standard on the entry-level 2020 Atlas Cross Sport S. It'll go on sale in Spring 2020.
