Who says you need a supercar to get ridiculous horsepower? The 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 has been revealed at the Detroit Auto Show 2019, and it's shaping up to be every bit as exciting as fans of the Ford were hoping. Headline feature, of course, is the 700+ horsepower.

That comes courtesy of a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, which is putting out more power than a Ford GT. It's linked to a TREMEC 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, and Ford is expecting a mid-three-second 0-60 mph time, not to mention a sub-11-second quarter-mile. Bringing things to a halt are huge Brembo brakes, with 16.5-inch two-piece rotors and six-piston calipers up front.

Styling changes outside and in make it clear that this is no car rental Mustang. Two option packs, meanwhile, add things like extra carbon fiber as well as optional Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber on the 20-inch exposed carbon fiber wheels. Figure on the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 arriving on forecourts in fall 2019.
