Ford’s 2020 Explorer brings the best-selling SUV into its sixth generation, and it’s not holding back. Joining the range from the outset will be both performance and economy-minded models, in the shape of the 2020 Explorer ST and 2020 Explorer Hybrid.
Ford Performance’s newest ST gets a tuned 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine, expected to deliver 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. Top speed is expected to be 143 mph. Black trim on the outside will be accompanied by leather sport buckets seats inside. Two options packs – the ST Street Pack and ST Track Pack – will add 21-inch wheels and bigger brake systems.
As for the 2020 Explorer Hybrid, that will focus on frugality. Ford combines a 3.3-liter gas engine with a li-ion battery under the second-row seats. That way, you get more than 500 miles of gas+electric range, but no compromise on cargo space. Both will go on sale in Summer 2019.
